Frequently Asked Questions
Taking the first step toward therapy often comes with questions. We hope these answers help you feel more comfortable about what to expect. If you don’t see your question here, please don’t hesitate to contact us.
What can therapy help with?
Therapy can help you navigate a wide range of emotional and life challenges, including anxiety, depression, stress, burnout, grief, relationship difficulties, self-esteem concerns, and major life transitions. Whether you’re facing a specific issue or simply feeling overwhelmed, therapy provides a supportive space to explore your experiences and develop healthier ways of coping.
Who do you work with?
Heritage Path Counseling works with adults seeking compassionate, individualized therapy. Whether you’re managing ongoing mental health concerns or navigating a difficult season of life, treatment is tailored to your unique needs and goals.
Do you offer online therapy?
Yes. Secure telehealth appointments are available for clients throughout Illinois. Virtual therapy provides the same compassionate, confidential care as in-person sessions while allowing you to meet from the comfort and privacy of your home.
Where is your office located?
Our office is conveniently located at 214 S. 3rd Street in St. Charles, Illinois; providing a comfortable and welcoming environment for in-person therapy sessions.
How long is each therapy session?
Most therapy sessions are approximately 50 minutes long. During your first appointment, we’ll discuss your concerns, answer your questions, and begin creating a plan that supports your goals.
How often will we meet?
Many clients begin with weekly sessions to build momentum and establish a strong therapeutic relationship. As progress is made, appointments may become less frequent depending on your needs and goals.
What happens during the first session?
Your first session is an opportunity for us to get to know one another. We’ll discuss what brings you to therapy, review your personal history, talk about your goals, and answer any questions you may have. There is no pressure to share everything immediately—we move at a pace that feels comfortable for you.
Do I need to prepare for my first appointment?
No special preparation is required. Simply come as you are. Some people find it helpful to think about what they’d like to accomplish in therapy, but there’s no “right” way to begin.
Is therapy confidential?
Yes. Your privacy is extremely important. Everything discussed in therapy is kept confidential except in limited situations required by law, such as concerns involving immediate safety or mandatory reporting requirements. These exceptions will be explained during your first appointment.
How do I know if therapy is right for me?
You don’t have to be in crisis to benefit from therapy. Many people seek counseling because they feel stuck, overwhelmed, anxious, or simply want additional support during a challenging time. If you’re wondering whether therapy might help, scheduling an initial consultation is often the best place to start.
Do you accept insurance?
We currently accept the following insurance plans:
- BlueCross and BlueShield
- Self Pay
What are your fees?
Individual Sessions $175
Good Faith Estimate: If you are uninsured or choosing not to use your insurance, you have the right to receive a Good Faith Estimate of the expected cost of your care under the No Surprises Act. Please see our Good Faith Estimate page for more information.
What is your cancellation policy?
If you need to cancel or reschedule your appointment, please provide at least 24 hours’ notice. Late cancellations or missed appointments may be subject to a cancellation fee.
What if I’m nervous about starting therapy?
Feeling nervous is completely normal. Many people feel uncertain before their first appointment, especially if they’ve never been to therapy before. Our goal is to create a warm, supportive environment where you can feel comfortable sharing at your own pace.
How do I schedule an appointment?
You can request an appointment by calling our office, sending us a message through the Contact page, or completing our online appointment request form. We’ll be happy to answer your questions and help you get started.
Still Have Questions?
Choosing a therapist is an important decision, and it’s natural to want more information before taking the next step. If you have additional questions or would like to learn more about our services, we’d love to hear from you.
